A look at the Hair material

- [Instructor] One of the big features that was added to release three of V-Ray for SketchUp, was the fur system, that gives us the ability to natively create basic CG hair, fur and grass effects, right here, inside of SketchUp. And whilst it is entirely possible to build a hair and fur texture that looks okay using just the generic material, there are inherent problems with that approach. For instance, how do we account for the unusual specular properties that are often times seen in hair and fur, using the generic material? How do we also deal with diffused coloration on the geometry, given that hair and fur are very transmissive? And, indeed, how do we set up the material so that it can handle full on GI in a scene, without bringing our computer to a crawl? All of these and a whole bunch of other issues, are almost impossible to solve properly when using just the generic material. Which is where the V-Ray hair…
