- [Instructor] Information retrieval is one of the most common uses of fuzzy logic. Information retrieval is a fancy way of saying data search. Fuzzy logic can be used in any information retrieval, but is most commonly used or familiar to users as being used in internet searches. Because the internet contains such a vast array of data that can be searched or retrieved, it is helpful to narrow down the data returned when searching for a particular item. In a normal database search, not internet-based, this would be done by sorting through common files or grouping tables together that are similar and then joining like terms, or searching a particular part of a database where you know a term is located. When it comes to the internet, the data is out of one person's control, and therefore cannot be predicted as to what will be returned when you search for a particular item.
