Origins of fuzzy logic

- [Instructor] Fuzzy theory was proposed in 1965. Before we had an accepted theory about fuzzy logic it had to be discussed and presented as an idea. This idea was presented in a paper about fuzzy sets my Professor Zadeh in 1965. Professor Zadeh taught at UC Berkeley and pointed out that Fuzzy sets played an important role in pattern recognition especially abstraction. This idea also played an important role in how humans communicate and later he expanded his theory to mathematics. It wasn't until and almost as soon as he expanded his theory to the field of mathematics that Professor Zadeh was met with strict criticism because at that time the only thing computers were doing was strict, precise mathematical calculations for companies like NASA and the IRS. Mathematics is a strict precise field. There is no room for fuzziness critics said. Fuzziness, Zadeh was proposing meant that boundaries were loose and that cannot be in mathematics where boundaries are supposedly precise and…
