- [Erin] Have you ever tried to tell a friend to get you an apple? You probably like your apples ripe. If you're like me, that means full red, no green. But to some, that could include some green, and depending on the apple, it may be all green. Now, imagine you are programming a computer to do this task for you. How would you explain to a simple machine that you want a ripe apple? Hi, I'm Dr. Erin Colvin. I'm a Computer Science instructor at Western Washington University, and co-author of Fuzzy Information Retrieval. Computers only see the world in true and false, yet, there is this huge gray area that we know lives in the human world. So, how do we explain that to robots or computers so that they understand? Throughout this course, we will spend some time discussing what fuzzy logic is, why it is important, and how it is being used in the world of technology today. We will cover topics, such as artificial intelligence and fuzzy inference, and I will use plenty of examples to drive the points home. So, grab an apple and let's get started.
