Why do we need fuzzy data?

- [Instructor] Prior to the fuzzy set theory, systems were created with crisp data sets. This definite yes, no answering system became very limiting in what we were able to do computationally. With this new way to calculate data, systems were able to add inferences that they didn't have before. Sensors were able to be created using this new fuzzy logic and we can now say things like, if an apple is red, put it in a box and send it to the store. Except we could now create a robot to do these functions, instead of a human doing this manual, tedious work. And humans could be used for other things. We could now predict if it's raining and tell the viewers on the TV to bring an umbrella. Or if there's more than a 50% chance of rain, we can infer that someone would need an umbrella. Computers could now predict, based on weather patterns, whether there was more of a chance of rain or not.
