Live-action vs. animation project settings

- [Instructor] In my other LinkedIn learning courses on Storyboarding. I've covered the differences between live action and animation Storyboarding. Most differences have to do with how much needs to be boarded, matching animation styles, PDF output options and drawing style among others. But there is one interface option that needs to be changed when you move between Storyboarding for live action, and animation, changing the numbering style. Now live action numbering uses scenes, shots and panels. And the scene includes all the shots created within one location at one point in time. As you can see here, on the Panel tab, over on the right, we're on scene seven, shot two. If I go back one, you'll see it says shot one. Up forward shot two, up forward shot three, all within scene seven. Because all of these shots take place inside the cab of this, in this case this flying pickup truck. 2D animation however, considers every cut a new scene. So let's take a look at how to switch between the numbering styles in Storyboard Pro. Let's go over here to the Edit, drop down, select Preferences. The second option down is terminology style. You'll see we have live action selected but we also have the option for animation. Select that and click OK. Now if we look over to the right, groups of scenes are now collected into sequences but we are now on scene two. Go forward, one cut and now it's scene three. We no longer have shots, we have scenes. CG animation may use either numbering option. So make sure to ask production how they plan to number their scenes. It only takes a moment to have Storyboard Pro properly number your productions as you work.
