Randomize the course background

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll look at using the random number variable that we generated on this first slide to personalize the course by changing the background of that slide. So let's double-click the thumbnail here to open up this first slide and we will select the image. And come on down to the States panel where we can add some custom states for this graphic. So we choose Edit States and create a new state, and we'll call this 1 for number one. So click add and we can right-click the image and bring in a new picture from Content Library. So Content Library, Photos, let's say train station. And grab any one of these, click insert. And we'll do that two more times for the second value, right? If the random number is two, this'll be the next image we show, so we can right-click this image and Replace Picture from Content Library. And grab this one. And let's do one more for number three. And click add. And just right-click the picture one more time, choose Replace Picture, and let's go grab one final one. And let's choose another train station. All right, so we have three custom images that we'll show based on the value of that variable. Now, we're already jumping and branching based on the variable, but let's add that now for this graphic. So New Trigger, and what is it we want to do, we want to change the state of that placeholder, placeholder image, to the state Custom State 1 when the timeline starts again, when the timeline first loads, that's when we want this to happen. And the timeline will be of the slide with the condition that the scenario variable is equal to 1, right? Makes it a lot easier if we keep the variable value and the state name the same, not always possible, but certainly makes it easy there. I'm going to just copy this now and I can just make a quick change to it here by changing the custom state to Custom State 2 if that variable value is randomized at number two. Let's copy it and paste it one more time. And then we can change it to 3. All right, so just another way that we can dynamically personalize the course. Let's preview the file. And there is our number 1 with the background. Let's refresh this and see if we get a different background with a different number. There's the number 2 on little darker train station and then there's a number 3 right there. So, cool, right? This is a way that you can personalize it, make the course feel little fresh each time, or show quotes or inspirational messages that appear each time the project's loaded, but you could just cycle through several of those as just another way to personalize your course.
