- [Instructor] A good step to take when trying to create photo realistic textures and materials, is that of looking to recreate the subtle details that life etches onto each object as the years roll by. We will do this by focusing on the switch on the side of the camera, that slides back and forth, where we will add a little bit of wear, to show its continued use over time. And there are a whole bunch of questions that we could be asking about our asset, in order to help us do this. For example, has somebody used this particular camera as a hammer, to hammer in nails? If that is the case then, well maybe the corners or the flat surfaces would have circular indents and scratches applied to it. These little background stories can add so much life and realism to our objects if we just take the time to think about it, before we begin using the tools and techniques that we're going to look at in this chapter.
