- [Voiceover] The focus of this particular exercise will be to look at how we can make use of masks in our workflow so as to add both detail and realism to the material that we are creating here. In this case, by chipping away at some of the red paint layer. And now let's reveal the bare metal sitting underneath. To do this, we are going to come to our red paint layer, right click on it, and then add a black mask from the popup menu that appears. This, as you can see, places a mask on our red paint layer which because it is filled with black is effectively masking out all of the red paint material at this moment in time. What we can do now though, is right click on the mask itself and we do need to make certain that it is the mask that we are on, and then choose the generator option. For those who are not sure just what a generator is, the name really says it all in that, what we get is a procedural pattern generator that can help us build some really complex elements including masks…
