Importing and evaluating footage

- In this chapter, we are going to go over the process of match moving by showing you how to quickly get up and running with SynthEyes. So let's start by importing some footage and take a look at some of the features during the import process. If we go up to the file menu, and go down to import, import shot, just click on that. Locate your footage which is the server room dolly sequence. Go to the first frame, and you can either double click the first frame or just press open. Now that the preferences for your footage is opened up, take a look at the start frame. Make sure that you have the right start frame and end frame, also the frame rate. Of course this all looks really good by default. SynthEyes is pretty good at analyzing your footage. Everything looks pretty good, so we'll just press OK. So before we hit the auto track, we need to take a look at the footage and see if there's anything we need to do ahead of time, like remove lens distortion or alter the footage to make it easier for us to track. So let's press play. Looks like the camera is moving in. Looks pretty good. The distortion doesn't seem to be too bad. So for this shot we will not remove lens distortion. If you had a shot that had noticeable lens distortion, we can go over to the lens tab. On the left hand side you have calculate distortion, you would just click that on. But we're going to leave it off this time. Let's go back over to the summary panel. Now we are ready to start an auto track.
