Adding reference lines, distributions, and boxes

- [Instructor] When you create a visualization, Tableau builds it from your data, and the rules and conventions of the visualization style you selected. You can add other elements such as reference lines and distributions to compliment the built-in features of your visualization. In this movie, I will show you how to include those additional elements in your Tableau workbook. My sample file is the Reference workbook and you can find it in the Chapter11 folder of the Exercise Files collection. This visualization shows expense trends by month for the years 2015 and 2016. What I've done is truncated the Y or vertical axis so you can see that it starts at $14,000 a month and then extends up to 28. Because I don't have the full Y axis, what I'd like to do is display a reference line that shows the average of the values for each of these months. To do that, I right-click the vertical axis and then from the shortcut menu that appears, I'll go down to the bottom and click Add Reference Line…
