- [Narrator] One of the more popular file formats for data sharing is the JSON, or J-S-O-N, format. It's relatively new, so not a lot of programs can handle the data directly. Tableau 10.1 introduced the ability to connect to JSON files, though. In this movie, I will give you an overview of the data, what JSON files look like, and then also show you how to make the connection. I'm currently in Tableau, but I want to show you what a JSON file looks like. So I'll press alt tab and I have the order details.JSON file open in Notepad. Notepad is the basic text editor that comes with Windows, and that tells you that this is simply a text file. The data starts with a left square bracket, which indicates the start of the data collection, and then you have individual items. Each item is enclosed within a left curly bracket and a right curly bracket. You can see those there. Then you have a series of fields. Let's start with the first one which was called order ID.
