Connecting to a data source
- [Instructor] When you are ready to create a visualization in Tableau, you need to connect to an outside data source. In this movie, I will show you how to connect to an Excel workbook, but the skills that I demonstrate will apply to other types of data sources as well. I have run Tableau, and here on the left side of the start screen, you can see the Connect pane. I want to connect to an Excel file, so I'll go under the To a File section, and click Excel. Doing so displays the open dialogue box, and here I have the Chapter02 folder of the exercise files archive, and I want to use the Products Excel file, which is here in the middle, so I will double click that, and when I do, Tableau creates a connection to the product workbook and the only table that I have within it, and here, at the bottom, you'll see the data, so I have Product ID near one, so Large Towel from the category Housekeeping, and a price of $9.
