Create a level of detail (LOD) expression

- [Narrator] In early versions of Tableau, it wasn't easy for analysts to combine individual values with overall summaries in the same calculation. Then, Tableau introduced level of detail expressions, which let you do just that. In this movie, I will show you how level of detail, or LOD expressions work. My sample file is the LOD Workbook, and you can find it in the Chapter06 folder of your exercise files collection. This visualization shows a series of orders and it also for your information lists the property city, and then the value of the order. And what I'd like to do is to find the amount that a particular order is above the average of all orders. So in other words I'm not looking at property city, I'm just looking at the average of all orders. To do that, I can create a calculated field. And by way of warning, the first calculation that I create will be the wrong way, and then I'll show you how to do it correctly. I'll create my field by going to the Analysis menu, then click…
