Creating a packaged workbook

- [Instructor] Tableau is a very useful and versatile program, but not everyone has a copy. If you want to share your Tableau workbooks with others who might not have Tableau, or at least not the full version, you can do so by creating what is called a packaged workbook. Individuals who don't have the full version of Tableau can view packaged workbooks in the Tableau Viewer, which they can download from the Tableau software website for free. In this movie, I will show you how to create a packaged workbook. And my sample file is called CreatePackage, and it's a workbook you can find in the Chapter03 folder of your Exercise Files collection. To create a packaged workbook, which contains the visualization, and also the data used to drive the visualization, go to the File menu, and then about a quarter of the way down, click Export Packaged Workbook. Doing so takes you to the Export Packaged Workbook dialog box. And if it looks suspiciously similar to the Save As dialog box, you're absolutely right. It's just a very minor variation. The difference is that the Save as type item, or list box, has been changed to Tableau Packaged Workbook. With that in place, you can type in a File name. In this case, I'll just leave it as CreatePackage. And when you're done, click Save. And that's all there is to it. You have now saved a packaged workbook that you can share with your colleagues, and they can look at it and view its contents using the Tableau Viewer.
