Data viz vs. data stories

- One of the ways to make a really engaging dashboard is to create data stories. Now what is the difference between a data visualization and a data story? In general a data vis tends to be exploratory. So what do I mean by that? Well a data vis usually will display the data in an effective and engaging way using all good practice. But what it'll also do is allow the viewer to explore that data to dig deeper to find interesting things in that data set. Now a data visualization for exploration will tend to have a high level of interaction because we want our user to explore the data. So in order to do that we're going to give them lots of tools. So we might give them some filters so they can include or exclude certain parts of the data set. We might use some actions to encourage them to click within the view and see how that changes to tease out those interesting bits of information.
