Defining a URL action

- Tableau workbooks let you create terrific visualizations. But they rarely tell the entire story about your data. If you want to create a link to an outside data source, such as a web page you can create a URL action to add that link to your dashboard. I will show you how to do that in this movie. My sample file is the URL action workbook and you can find it in the chapter 13 folder of the exercise files collection. There are four basic elements to this dashboard. The first is base data, the second is expense category and the third, expense trend and if you look down on the tab bar, you'll see that those correspond to the three sheets within the workbook. I also have a Landon Hotel graphic and what I want to do is make this a clickable image, so that if a user clicks it then a web browser will open and it will see the Landon Hotel website. To do that I can right click the image and then click set URL. The set URL dialogue box appears and I can type in my URL or hyperlink, so make it…
