- [Instructor] Businesses use abbreviations all the time to identify products, categories, and models. In this movie, I'll show you how to determine whether a character sequence occurs within a larger string. I'll start in PowerPoint and then switch over to Tableau. The first function is contains, it looks for a substring within a string. For example, the characters OB within a larger string such as a product code. EndsWith does the same thing except it looks to see if a particular string ends with exactly the substring you give it. StartsWith looks at the beginning of the string and does the same comparison. Those are the three functions that I'll use in this movie, so I'll switch over to Tableau and show you how to create calculated fields with them. In Tableau, I am working in the Occurs workbook.
