- [Instructor] One very useful style of visualization that you can create in Tableau 10 is a map. All you need to do is take geographic data and you can convert it into a Tableau visualization. In this movie, I will show you two ways that you can bring geographic data in. My first sample file is called USGS_Quake and it is an Excel file that you can find in the chapter 12 folder of your exercise files collection. I have a sample of earthquake data from the US Geological Survey, and these are earthquakes that happened in March of 2014. If you look in columns B and C, you will see that there is a measure for latitude, or north south, and longitude, or east west. That means that with those measurements, we are able to pinpoint the exact location of the epicenter of each earthquake. You have to make sure that Tableau understands the data, but you can use it.
