- [Instructor] Random forest algorithms classify entities according to characteristics contained in the data set. Specifically, they classify objects by creating decision trees. If there are five possible values for the first attribute, then there are five paths, or branches, to the tree. Each tree then would have a separate branch for the number of different characteristics possible for the second attribute, and so on. This algorithm which is an ensemble, actually, or a collection of methods, randomly generates trees and tests their performance. These system keeps the ones that perform well and gets rid of the ones that don't. When you're performing those type of analysis, categories that are represented as numbers require special handling.
