- [Instructor] Tableau data extracts are a great way to get over the problem of a slow data source. This enables the end-user experience to be nice and fast. There are two ways to create a Tableau data extract, from whether we already use an existing data source or for our new connection. First, let's have a look at how we create an extract from an existing data source. This example here, we're connecting to the sample superstore sales data in your worksheet. So we've got a live connection to the data. If wanna create an extract, we simply right-click on the data source, and Extract Data. Tableau then asks us how much data we wanna extract. It's at this point we could add a filter to only pull back a subset of the data. This is useful if we have a very large data set. But for this example, we're gonna just leave everything as it is, and we'll just extract everything. Tableau needs to know where to store this file.
