Filtering data using parameters
- [Instructor] When you define a filter, Tableau limits the visualization summary to the values you want. You can always edit a filter to change the values it shows, but it's handy to use a visible control to make those changes. If you create a top filter, you can use a parameter control to indicate how many values Tableau should display. I'll show you how to use parameters in this context. My sample file is the Parameter Workbook and you can find it in the chapter six folder of your exercise files collection. This workbook contains a single sheet and it calculates spending for the 20 cities in which this hotel company has a property. And what I'd like to do is to show the top one or perhaps five or seven values and rather than editing the filter, I'd rather just change a single control on the sheet itself. The first thing I need to do is to define a parameter. I'm going to base it on spending. So I'll go down to the Measures area and click the Spending pills down arrow and halfway…
