How to create a data extract

- [Instructor] When we connect to a data source in Tableau, one of the options given to us is to have a live connection or an extract. Now, which one we choose depends on a couple of factors. And we're gonna look at some of the differences now. So first of all, let's connect to some data. So for this example we're gonna connect to an Excel file you can find in your exorcise folder. We're gonna look at the Sample - Superstore.xls. Then we connect to our data, and we drag the sheet that we're interested in, in this case, orders, onto the pane. Now at the top right it shows the connection type, so we've got a live connection to the database. Now this means that we are directly connected to the Excel sheet that's held on the file system. Any change that are made to that file are gonna be updated straight away in our Tableau visualization. So if somebody changes one of the values we're gonna set that reflected when we refresh the data and reload it. The change will be carried over into the…
