Identify part of a date using DATEPART
- [Instructor] Dates record when an event occurred, specifying the month, day and year of an event. In this movie, I will show you how to pull a part of a date, such as a month or quarter, out of the larger value for use in your analysis. I'll start in Powerpoint with a list of the date part function's values that you can look for. And, as you see here, there are quite a few. You've got year, quarter, month, dayofyear, day, weekday, week, hour, minute and second. So pretty much any part of a date that you want to pull out you're able to. I particularly find dayofyear and quarter to be useful, and they're not something that you think of necessarily, but it's surprising how often those come up. You can also use these date part arguments in other functions as well. I'll cover the date name function in this movie, and you'll see how it works there.
