Import data into Tableau
- [Instructor] If you want to create a Tableau visualization, you need data for the program to work with. Tableau lets you bring in data from a wide range of sources. In this movie, I will show you some of the sources available and demonstrate how to import data from an Excel workbook. I have run Tableau and I have left it open to a blank book. What I want to do now is connect to a source file. That file is an Excel workbook. So I'll go over to the Connect panel and I'll click Microsoft Excel. From there, you will see an open dialog box, navigate to the folder that contains the file you want to connect to. In this case, I'm in the Chapter Two folder of the Exercise Files collection. I'll click All Data and click Open. And I get my connection. I see a list of order dates and customer names, states, and so on.
