Introducing Tableau file types

- [Instructor] Tableau at the surface looks like a reasonably simple program but there is actually a lot going on under the hood. One of the ways that you can use Tableau to its full extent is to take advantage of its different file types. In this movie, I will describe the different file types that are available to you. The first type is the Tableau workbook. These files have a .twb extension and they store a visualization without source data. So in other words, you can visualize your data perhaps using a line or a column chart and store it in your workbook but without including the original data source. Next is a Tableau data source or .tds file. A Tableau data source file stores the server address, password, and other information required to access a data source. So whereas a workbook stores the visualization without the source data, a data source file would store the link without the visualization attached. There are other file types that are available.
