Return zero if a calculation includes a null value
- (Narrator) One of the worst problems that business analysts face is missing data. Not a zero value, those we know how to work with. The real problem comes when a value is null, meaning it doesn't exist in your data set. In this movie, I will show you how to use a function to return zero rather than a blank or null if your data set includes a null value. My sample file is the handle nulls workbook, and you can find it in the chapter three folder of the exercise files collection. I've done a quick calculation for a number of clients that are planning a conference at a hotel. As you can see, I have a number of room blocks indicating the number of blocks required here, except that I have two blanks, or null values, one for INVT and one for MFST. I can investigate where these blank values come from by going to my data source. So I'll go to the bottom left hand corner of the program window and click data source, and here I see that MFST has a null value and INVT also has a null value for…
