Summarizing data using a smart histogram

- Histograms summarize data in a vertical bar chart, where each bar represents the count of datapoints that occur within a given value range. For example, you could create a histogram to count the days with zero to 20 visitors, 21 to 40, 41 to 60, and so on. In Tableau 10 you can edit the bin size, and instead of using the suggested values from the program, you can create your own. I'll show you how to define custom bins with this movie. My sample file is the custom bins workbook, which you can find in the chapter 10 folder of your exercise files collection. I have already created a histogram, and you can see that I have guest counts for a number of days, it's 100. And I see that I have values starting in the bin that goes from 286 to one less than 299, so 286 to 298, and I can see that I had 14 occurrences of values within that range. The fewest appears to be here, where I had one count of 381. What I'd like to do, however, is to change the bin size. Right now the bin size varies…
