Truncate a date
- [Instructor] When you work with numbers, you will sometimes want to round them up or down. Perhaps to the nearest whole number, or maybe to a multiple of 10 or 100. If you want to do the same thing with dates, rounding a date to the start of a week or a quarter, you can do so using the DATETRUNC function. I'll show you how to do that in this movie. My sample file is the Truncate workbook and you can find it in the Chapter04 folder of your Exercise Files collection. Right now, my visualization displays a list of client names and the date by which they require a proposal from our hotel to specify terms for hosting a conference on that client's behalf. In this scenario, let's say that we prefer to have a proposal in at the start of the week before that client actually requires the proposal. That way we're working in advance as opposed to getting things in in the last minute. If I want to perform that calculation, I can do that using the DATETRUNC function. So I'll created a new…
