Welcome

- [Matt] Hi, I'm Matt Francis. Tableau's Headmaster and wannabe data rock star, and welcome to Tableau 10 for Data Science. In this course, we'll look at the difference between discreet and continuous data. An important implication this has with every aspect of Tableau. You'll see how to connect to data and how creating data extracts can optimize the end user experience if our data connection is slow. You'll learn how we can transform our data by cleaning, splitting, pivoting, and merging. And explore the new cross data source joins that are now possible with data integration. You'll discover new ways to analyze your data, that is as easy as dragging and dropping items onto your canvas, such as, quick highlighting, reference lines, and the new clustering function. We'll look at some of the new ways to create beautiful maps using Mapbox. I'll show you how to create personalized, dynamic visualizations by using parameters to take user input and drive the visualization. The course covers good design practices for dashboards, how to make them beautiful as well as functional. And how to make them fully interactive using actions. As a bonus, I'll share some useful calculations for working with dates and times and strings. I'm super excited to share the amazing things you can do with data and Tableau. Let's get started with Tableau 10 for Data Science.
