What you should know

- [Instructor] So what should you know before you start this course? Firstly, you should be comfortable with a Unity game engine. Unity is the technology we're going to be using to integrate all of our UI. If you don't know what a game object is or a component I would highly recommend taking a look at Unity Essential Training in the LinkedIn Learning catalog. Next, you should have some experience deploying to an Android device. Unity is going to be taking care of all of our deployment through this project. However, having knowledge of how to deploy to an Android device will certainly help with troubleshooting. Lastly, you should have a basic understanding of user interfaces and design. You don't have to be an expert in these fields but it's useful to understand the problem space to appreciate the solutions provided. So what will we use? Well, we'll be using Unity 2020.1.5 and we'll be using the Oculus SDK 20.0 for Unity. Now I make specific mention of these version numbers because it will make your life a lot easier if you take this course with the exact version numbers mentioned. So what should you have? Well, you should have a computer running either OSX or Windows. This course will be done on a Mac but the Windows folks shouldn't have much trouble following along. Second, you should have an Oculus Quest device with both controllers. We will be using both controllers throughout this course so I have them handy. Lastly, you should have a USB-C cable to connect your Oculus Quest device to your computer. This is usually included with the Oculus Quest device. Lastly, I want to mention that no programming is required. I will be providing a bunch of scripts and it's very useful for you to go through them and see exactly what I'm doing to achieve the desired effect. Now that we know what we should know, it's time to move on.
