- [Instructor] Now let's focus on the story. If you have any experience writing stories, or read about screenwriting, or even took the time to analyze your favorite movie, you know most of them follow a structure of three acts. Sometimes, especially in recent years, certain filmmakers like to break this structure to make the story more organic. But in my opinion, as long as we're entertained, surprised or moved by the stories we read or watch, whatever structure or lack thereof works for me. But for the sake of those starting to write, I'd suggest to follow a structure of three acts. The first act is where we learn about the characters, their situation, where also some items that will be resolved in the last act will be foreshadowed. About 20 to 30% of your entire story is made of this act. You want to present information that will be useful in the later acts of your story. But, you want to present it visually.
