The 3ds Max project structure

- [Instructor] The 3ds Max scene files that we will be using at the start of this course, have been set up using a 3ds Max project folder so as to give us quick and easy access to those scenes from inside the application whilst also keeping all of the dependent files such as textures working correctly. To ensure that you are taking advantage of this file managed approach, we're going to quickly walk through both setting up and then making use of the project folder for this part of the course. To do that, with our cursor over the 3ds Max view port all we need do is hit the X key and if using 3ds Max 2018 or earlier type P-R-O-J in the search field and choose the Set Project Folder option that appears in the list. If using a later version of Max than the base 2018 install though, we will want to type C-U-R-R for current into the search filed and then choose the create from current command. With both of these approaches, opening up a dialog that will let us select any folder on our storage drives to be the root folder for our project. In this instance, I will locate the downloaded exercise files folder, which for convenience sake has been saved to my desktop and then click to select it. Once done, we can hit the OK button and our exercise files folder has now been setup to serve as the root project folder. What will happen now is that whenever we use standard application functions we should find ourselves taken straight to the appropriate folder in our project setup. Whenever we want to open a scene file for instance, all we need do is use the Open command and we will be taken straight to the project scenes folder.
