Reflection capture probes
- Reflections can be tricky to set up. Unless you're working with literal mirrors, and those really are a special case. It can be hard to know where to begin. You can find them in the place mode, under visual effects. And in addition to the planer reflection that I just mentioned, there's a box reflection, and a sphere reflection capture probe. These actors act like special cameras in the project. But, their output only blends into reflective surfaces, even though they capture entire scenes. Sphere probes capture a spherical image. This is great for giving curved surfaces and other organic shapes plenty of good enough reflection data. The drawback is these probes can cause artifacts when they blend together, especially near flat surfaces like the monitors. For those, we use box captures. These snap orthographic views and display them based on the orientation of the reflective asset. It works great for things like these…
