Static lighting

- [Instructor] Unreal Engine has this notion of mobility with actors. Are they static, stationary, or movable? These questions all come down to how the engine will handle lighting for that actor. And answering that question involves striking a balance between quality and interaction, and between performance and realism. First there's dynamic lighting. These lights are the most computationally expensive type of asset, but they're also the most interactive. These lights tend to feel more grounded in a scene than the other types because they have responsive shadows that follow them around and don't depend on lightmap resolutions. These lights can bog down a project fast though, so try to use them sparingly. Often you can get away with static lights for the majority of a scene, and then just toss in a few movable lights here and there where they'll have the most impact.
