Sunlight is readily available and free, but it doesn't always cooperate. When you need to work over several hours or even days, you need to match your shots. And don't want to worry about the weather forecast. You my want to consider artificially lighting your scene. In this case we wanted to mimic an early morning light and have the time and gear to make it happen. The girl we saw sipping coffee in a previous movie is now at home arranging flowers in the kitchen. The script calls for interior kitchen, bright beautiful morning light. In this case, we didn't need portability. And since we weren't exactly chasing the sunrise, we had more time to fine tune our scene. The most basic approach would be to simply to use the available window light. But that presented several challenges, including pushing our camera's technical limitations. But most importantly, we were not achieving the proper look for the scene. We added the kitchen's overhead lights, which in this case happened to be warm…
