Adding the visuals
- We've just gone through the steps of creating a solid rough assembly, which again is the edit of the best material in the right order, and we've also gone through and really worked on refining the timing and pacing. Now, as we move from rough assembly to rough cut, it's time to begin adding our extras in terms of visuals and music. Let's first talk about the visuals, which I've described many times throughout this course as B-roll. So let me quickly just explain why it's called B-roll. It's because the primary material that we just edited, which makes up our narrative spine, is the foundation. It's our A-roll. So when we add the visual supplementary elements on top of A-roll, we call that B-roll. And when we add these visuals, you'll see that things really start coming together. If you watched the second movie of this chapter, you know exactly how B-roll functions to accompany the primary dialog as well as the mechanics of how to mark shots and bring them down to the sequence.
