Adjusting the shutter speed

- In this tutorial we're going to look at using the shutter speed to adjust exposure. I honestly don't use this much at all, and it's important to understand why. First let's talk about what the shutter is. In old film cameras there was a little rotating disc with a hole in it in front of the lens. Kind of looked like a pie with a slice taken out of it. As this hole passed in front of the lens, it allowed light to go through, which hit the film, and captured the image. In digital cameras this concept still applies, but the shutter speed on digital cameras refers to the time that the sensor is exposed to the image. And, just like film cameras, the longer the shutter stays open, the more light hits the sensor. Now that sounds great, right? Why not just let the light hit the sensor as long as it needs to, so you can shoot in super low light and all that stuff. Still photographers do this all the time, so why not us?
