Basic camera settings

- No matter what camera system you choose to use to film your interview with, there are five basic camera settings you should become familiar with. That's frame rate, white balance, aperture, ISO and shutter speed. First, frame rate. There's going to be a lot of frame rates thrown around depending where you're filming and what your client wants. 23.98, 29.97, 25 if you're in Europe. These different frame rates are all dependent on what your client wants for the delivery and where it's being shown. Talk to them to see what settings they want. The next is white balance. White balance is how your camera sees the color white. There are a bunch of presets on your camera ranging from daylight to cloudy to fluorescent to tungsten and to incandescent light. I encourage you to use the white balance presets in your camera for your interview until you become more familiar with the science behind it. The remaining three settings are what we call the exposure triangle. They all affect each other…
