Building a control cycle
- When you build a control cycle, you want to try to involve multiple people in the process. After all, if your core team has to follow it they should partake in it. If just the project manager tries to build this out, things will often get missed. But somebody needs to spearhead the process and be in charge. Here's a sample control cycle that was developed a few years ago in my company. What you'll see here are the major steps for each stage. For example, the project is initiated and a project manager's assigned, and then the basic paperwork is done, including contract, scoping document, descriptive treatment and budget analysis. Then, this information is reviewed by one of the executives within the company, to ensure that it's accurate and that the budget is in alignment.
