Capturing lessons learned

- As you work on a project, particularly as you start to close it out, it's critical that you capture the lessons learned. If you're going to grow as a project manager and your team is going to grow, as well as the company, you have to learn from mistakes as well as make sure that successes are captured and used going forward. Ask your team members to debrief, both as a group and on their own. Giving them a short survey or having a brief conversation to identify issues is really important. Be sure you also capture these debriefs in writing or create summary notes that you could reflect upon. This will be useful the next time a similar project comes up or if you could pass the feedback on to others within your organization. Be sure to document all thoughts, even if you disagree with them.
