- All right, no matter how dramatic your story is, no matter how clever the plot twists are, without engaging characters you're going to have a hard time holding on to your audience. So before we go any further in the writing process, I think it's worth spending some time on character and talking about how it is that you take these people that sort of exist in your mind, and you may even feel like you know their entire life story, but how do you get them on a page in a way that makes them really feel like living, breathing people? And also, how do you ensure that all of the characters on the pages of your story don't all seem too much alike?
