- In the days of vaudeville, comedy duos were all the rage. From Gallagher and Shean to Martin and Lewis, the configuration was always the same. A straight man who set up the joke, and the gag man or clown who delivered the punch line. It's a model for comedy itself. The straight man is the normal world, where nothing's funny and everything seems to make sense. The gag man is the comedic world, where everything's ridiculous and is closer to the truth. So here's a question for your video script. Who's the straight man and who's the clown? You might say, there is no comedy team in my video. The whole thing's funny. First of all, egotistical, much? Secondly, there's always a comedy team. In a lot of funny commercials, the straight man is the voiceover narrator, who tells you the way things are.
