Cheating lights and talent

- Sometimes when you're shooting, you need to cheat to get the shot you want. What do I mean by cheating? Well cheating is when you have to fake something to get the shot you want. Let's look at an example here. In the counsel scene, this shot was shot from below to make Markolin feel a little bit more intimidating. By lowering the camera, we actually ended up seeing a lot of the ceiling though and the ceiling wasn't dressed because we didn't see it very much. So the shot was very ugly. To fix this, we lowered the camera and tilted it down. But then we couldn't see the actor. So we cheated him. We had him sit down on an apple box for this shot to make it work without seeing the ceiling. Now does the audience know that he's actually sitting down? Nah, of course not, it's undetectable. For the hut scene, where we went in for the head on close-ups of Nattie, we cheated the lights in a little bit, so we could get a more flattering image.
