- It might be tempting to just hit that big red record button and start shooting video, but slow down there, speed racer, because like most things in life it's just not that easy. Especially when it comes to cameras. After all, these babies are complicated. There's a few important settings that you need to make sure are set first, before you start shooting. And your frame rate is one of them. A frame rate is the number of images, or frames, that make up a second of video. Because video is actually many still images played back-to-back, it creates the illusion of movement. And because of that, your frame rate can drastically change the way motion appears in your video. The less frames you have, the choppier the motion. The more frames you have, the smoother the motion.
