- We've already talked about some techniques to form a strong sense of trust and comfort and then move through the interview in a successful manner. Sometimes, however, you may need to go beyond the basics and switch things up in order to elicit better interviews. That's what I want to talk about here. I first want to talk about some alternative ways to get an interview subject comfortable. As we mentioned before, it's essential for the director to create an environment that encourages natural delivery from the interview subjects. Certainly some subjects are naturally natural on camera, others aren't, and some just can't get there very easily in a formal sit-down scenario. One possible way to coax more natural delivery from inexperienced interviewees is to talk to them while they do something they love. Just mike them up and let them talk as they perform a task.
