Creating matte paintings
- A matte painting is usually, well in the old days it was an actual painting that would go in the background to kind of fill up the environment, and this was used famously a lot in the work of Star Wars, Blade Runner. All through movie history all over the place, matte paintings are used, and these days matte paintings are often created with a combination of traditional painting techniques and also CG renders and also sometimes also photographs. So, any of those three objects kind of combined together can be used to create a matte painting. And I created a matte painting for the platform that Cordeia stood on. That was important for me that it looked good and decent and believable. So I went to the park where we shot the finale sequence with Cordeia, and I took some plates of rocks, like the rocks that she was climbing on, so that I could take this into Photoshop and make a more detailed plate since we would be seeing this up close.
