Creating a schedule

- During the pre-production stage, you're going to want to put a project schedule together. This isn't the shoot schedule, but rather the schedule for the project as a whole. What's important to note here are key milestones that have to be hit. With many projects there's ultimately a deadline. Is the video you're creating part of a sales conference, for example. Or is it tied to a marketing campaign? Other things you need to think about are also approvals. If there's things like legal review or management approval, you have to build in time for that. Knowing these milestones are important because there dates that typically can't be missed. This is going to help you make some of the other choices that are a bit more flexible. Then it really just comes down to time estimation. And one of the areas that people tend to underestimate the most is post-production.
