Cultivating a safe work environment

- Part of showing respect for your talent is creating an emotionally and physically safe work environment in order for them to do their best work. Making movies and other productions can be a really stressful prospect, but you always need to be professional on your set. Actors need to feel safe in order to be able to be vulnerable and they need to be vulnerable in order to give those believable performances. You need to establish trust between you, the crew, and the actors or all those performances will suffer. All of this is to create an environment where your actors can feel emotionally safe and able to fully inhabit their characters. You don't want to go to them and say, "Can't you just cry on cue?" They need to be able to get to that moment first. You also want to make sure they're actually physically safe.
