- So let's talk about vanity lights. Vanity lights are one of my favorite DIY lights, and the reason is 'cause they're awesome. For example, this light here, I've built and had for about 10 years. I've used it on a million different things, from professional sports shoots to corporate interviews. And what makes it so cool is it actually gives a totally unique look to your video. And a lot of times, what I'm using it for is I'm actually using it, as we stated earlier, when we're doing a dark background and we want to add some interest. A lot of times, what I've done is I've actually, on a two-camera shoot, where I've had a dolly and a side angle, I've used this as my main source and just let the depth of field kind of let it bloom it out, and it's a really, really cool look. Conversely, it also creates really interesting lens flares and things that you wouldn't normally get from a soft source light or an LED.
